Denver TMAU Test Lab survey click here

USA survey for anyone who wants to improve Denver TMAU test

begun : Dec22
end : no ending for now

A trainee genetic counselor is working at the Denver TMAU test lab. Probably as part of her training. As a project she wishes feedback on any aspect of the Denver TMAU test and process. You can fill in the survey and/or email her (email address is in survey). It's meant for USA people, but perhaps others can give their view too (as we have so few opportunities).

quote from her rareconnect post

"Hello all! I wanted to make you aware of a research study being conducted to better understand the experience and needs of individuals with trimethylaminuria with a goal of being able to create improved patient and healthcare provider education materials. Any participation is completely voluntary and all responses remain confidential. Feel free to use the contact information within the link with any questions or share the survey with others with TMAU."

TMAU paper funded by NORD Grant donations

This is the TMAU paper funded by donations to the NORD TMAU Grant.
Funding was raised by the community (about $25k).

Note :
This is a public pre-print the research group have released.
It has not yet been peer reviewed
(i.e. published in a Journal (pending))

Pre-prints of research papers :
A new trend is for researchers to pre-print research papers on specialist online websites intended to host research papers without the need for being peer reviewed to be accepted to a medical journal. This paper has been uploaded by the researchers to the website 'open science network'.

Paper Title :
Genetic Analysis of Impaired Trimethylamine Metabolism Using Whole ExomeSequencing
Link to paper (online science network)

Observations on the paper :
We have quickly posted the paper so the community can read it ASAP. Our own comments on the paper may appear in later posts.

Post your comments :
But you can post your comments here now if you wish. Use the button below.

The study was carried out under the auspices of Monell Chemical Senses Center

I think those are very interesting results and it gives the TMAU/Metabolic odor community more info on what maybe going on. At least we have more info on where to continue looking for those
" other variants", other than FMO3.

It's interesting to see that "variants in genes other than FMO3 may cause TMAU." We are very grateful to the Monell Chemicals Senses Center for their research.

Doesn't this make it more difficult to find a cure? Because now instead of focusing on FMO3 the uk researchers will have to do more research on the other genes. This is not only time consuming but also the lack of grants may prevent this cure or treatment from happening.

This is a study by Monell via the NORD grant. It could be considered a 'new opinion' on TMAU. This happens in research. It probably won't stop other research into FMO3.

Its so frustrating sometimes. All I want to do is get a job where I won't be fired and just get on with my life. I feel like there's a treatment/cure waiting to be found and so close but yet so far. Will it ever come.. only God knows I guess.
