Poem: Dogged Dog by Ben

A slumbering canine quadruped he was-
that lazy cur!-
a regular underachiever.
That lethargic, mangy labrador-
quite a misnomer!-
had no business being a retriever.

Vigor vacant all the time-
excessive flatus!-
sometimes he downright sickens me.
Upon consuming excrement,
that fecal fiend!-
was he much more apt to lickin' me.

When I'd tell em' to go, he'd come-
that dogged dog!
doing everything out of spite.
Always temperamental, never obedient-
the mangy mutt!
Now what gave him the right?

While out one evenin' walkin'-
crazy critter!-
in a vicious battle he got entangled.
That brave dog saved my life-
my hero!-
a rattlesnake lay dead and mangled.

That dog was quite special-
most amazing!
Never a dog such as him existed.
Loyal and befriending-
a trophy!-
of flawless design is what he consisted.

He defecated on my bed as I slept-
that malodorous mutt!-
and I swear he did smile.
I know it just don't seem right-
but that dogged dog-
I loved em' all the while.
